It was an otherwise standard issue weeknight. The girls had unpacked their lunchboxes without reminder and plopped their water bottles into the fridge (with a gentle nudge — always needing a gentle nudge), then slid out their homework sheets and slid into their high-top stools at the kitchen island. I chopped one of those sweet piñata apples into thin slices, scooped out a heaping spoonful of creamy peanut butter onto the cutting board and poured them each a small glass of milk, before sinking my hands into sudsy water to clean the day’s snack and sandwich containers.
After my daughters finished their schoolwork and snack, and showered off the stink of the school day, our humble house began to be transformed into something new, something, dare I say, a wee bit fancy.
The scene was set as the sun was just about to do the same, minutes before the cloud cover of the day would blanket us beneath a classic wintertime moonless evening: there was the understated elegance of a dark brown viola being gently bowed, the crisp black slacks and snowstorm-white shirts of the doting servers, heavy ornate stoneware and polished silver flatware waiting at each place setting, and flickering tea light candles flanked by vases of delicate flowers serving as a fragrant foreshadowing of the season on the horizon.
My wife and I were all set to enjoy a romantic date night at a local steakhouse, a very local steakhouse actually, one located inside our very own home.
With the help of our talented daughters and from Idahoan® Premium Steakhouse® Potato Soups, we were able to morph our simple dining room into a fine and fancy big city steakhouse so that my wife and I could skip the babysitter’s hourly rate, the high per entrée price of eating out, and the compulsory tipping for meh service yet still enjoy a classy meal together with good music and eager-to-please waitressing.
In addition to a sautéed garlic & BBQ dry rubbed shrimp skewer starter, I ordered the Three Cheese Chipotle Loaded Potato Soup, delivering a pleasant hint of heat in the back of my throat, while my beautiful date opted for a cheesy bowl of Broccoli Cheddar Idahoan® Potato Soup. A bowl of soup, it bears mentioning, that our darling servers repeatedly helped themselves to! I’d hate to read the Yelp reviews of this strange steakhouse!
With only four cups of water needing to be added to each package of Idahoan® Premium Steakhouse® Potato Soups I was also able to skip the prep time usually required to produce a top-flight, steakhouse quality meal at home. The lack of cookware in the sink pleased this chef’s cracked, dry hands that had already done dish duty earlier that afternoon.
I’m already looking forward to my next fancy steakhouse date night at home this winter, with my lovely bride, helpful young servers and musicians, and bowls of hearty and delicious potato soup to warm up our chilly bones.
