Brandon Davies, starting forward for the #3 ranked BYU Cougar basketball team, was dismissed from the squad this week for breaking the school’s honor code (note: the lofty ranking will be short-lived as BYU got trampled by New Mexico last night in the team’s 1st game without it’s leading rebounder).
In a week that saw Charlie Sheen quickly unravel during a series of provocative TV interviews nearly taking Twitter and the rest of the internet down with him, this Mountain Standard Time honor code violation scandal stoked the fires of many a vivid imagination. Drugs? Domestic Abuse? Run-in with Utah police? No. No. And No. The young man had sex, the pre-marital variety with his girlfriend, which is forbidden in the BYU honor code (insert Mormon joke here).
The Cougars, not your typical national power on the hardcourt, led by sharpshooter Jimmer Fredette and low-post scoring threat Davies are in the midst of a dream season. One that may still result in a #1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, but any college basketball fan will tell you that fulfilling their impossible dream of cutting down the nets in Houston in early-April just got a lot more impossible sans Brandon Davies.
It’s not fair to Jimmer and the rest of his BYU teammates (not WINNING!), ’cause their grand plans have likely been derailed by Davies, his girlfriend, and their sexy sex in Cougar Town. No word yet on his blood (Tiger or not) nor his possible Adonis DNA.
So what’s the lesson for us and our children? Simple: Sex ruins lives and destroys dreams. Pass it on.
