In the current Jan/Feb ’11 double issue of Time Out New York Kids (photo above), I dish on the top kindie concerts in the Big Apple over the next two cold months. Not to be outdone, the city of brotherly love and it’s surrounding ‘burbs offer up an equally superb trio of kindie gigs for you and your young family…and here they are:
1/29/2011 – Billy Kelly returns to mushroom capital of the country for his January 29th date at the Kennett Flash. Kelly’s got a big full band now (the Blah Blah Blahs) and will play songs from his latest and greatest “Is This Some Kind Of Joke?” (and maybe a tune or two from his next kid’s disc due this Spring). Tip: If you can swing it with local kid-coverage, plan to return to the Flash later that same evening to catch Kelly’s alt-country alter-ego Earl Pickens & Family perform bluegrass originals as well as an acoustic interpretation of U2’s seminal Joshua Tree album.
Check out the stark b&w video for Earl Pickens & Family’s take on “With or Without You”:
2/12/2011 – Key Wilde & Mr. Clarke return to Philly’s World Cafe Live for a Peanut Butter & Jams concert featuring low-county tinged punk rock and Mr. Wilde’s humorous illustrations. You’ll no doubt hear the lovely “Mary the Fairy”, a favorite tune heard often on XM Radio’s Kid’s Place Live!
2/13/2011 – Gustafer Yellowgold will punch some Philadelphia Cream Cheese where Van Gogh resides (and where Philly’s famous boxer Rocky lives – albeit outdoors) when Morgan Taylor performs 2 mellow yellow sets at the Philadelphia Art Museum‘s Van Pelt Auditorium. Expect old favorites and some new cuts from the forthcoming “Infinity Sock” DVD/CD (due out 3/1/11).
