The brainchild of a mother-daughter team, Little Librarian makes playing pretend library in your own home a little less like pretend thanks to realistic library cards, late notices, and those old school book pockets and cards from the pre-computer era when your name and due date would be written on the card and you would discover all those who had borrowed that same book before you. I miss those.
As I have two little book and library lovers, the Little Librarian set was greeted with cheers in my home. It allowed us to set up a more realistic city library in the mini-metropolis formerly known as our family room. Right next to the toy store, pet shop, clothing store and ice cream shop was the new public library stocked with the classics Owl Moon, Library Lion, Houndsley and Catina and a wide array of Fancy Nancy books. Ya gotta love pretend play!
The pockets can easily be removed from the inside flap of hardback books, so fear not; your collection of kid-lit won’t permanently look as though you’ve stolen from a library! The Little Librarian set also contains a reading journal, to document your kid’s summer reading successes, a couple of bookmarks, and some reading award certificates. Write in pencil and you can reuse these materials over and over again.
Little Librarian is an extremely clever and original toy product with it’s heart in the right place – inspiring children to become actively engaged with their books, to play imaginatively with stuff they already have around the house, and of course TO READ!
