Can I be perfectly honest with you? It’s just you and me here, right?
While I adore the theory and concept behind the Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD series, all of us here at OWTK HQ have grown very tired of them arriving at our door featuring the same old stories repackaged again and again and again. We don’t crave retreads, we want to see new books, modern greats, given the Storybook Treasures treatment.
As luck would have it, that’s exactly what recently showed up! One of our fave contemporary early reader chapter books, Bink and Gollie, adorns the cover of Scholastic’s latest and greatest DVD story collection and we couldn’t be happier.
The Bink & Gollie and more stories about friendship Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD contains the original B&G book by Kate DiCamillo (The Tale of Despereaux, Because of Winn-Dixie, the Mercy Watson series), with the spunky fireplug Bink keeping her best bud, the more demure Gollie, on her toes at all times, as well as A Sick Day for Amos McGee, and a pair of additional stories.
As I mentioned in my Netflixaggedon reaction piece on Philly Kids Thing this week, it’s comforting to own your media, because a world of only streaming video is a scary place we cannot control. I recommended, holistically, the Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVDs and would definitely add this new Bink & Gollie titled title to my list of must-own DVDs for your kids to enjoy without the fear of a great puppet master yanking a string and taking away something your children hold dear.
And buy the books too, or get them from your library, because two more Bink & Gollie books have been released since the first that is featured here. And they are terrific.
