Product Review Part 2: Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide

I’d like to return here, to follow up this post, and say with cheery glee that I’ve been rocking my Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide like a champ – twice daily, stars, happy faces, and all that. But if I tried to make that claim, I’d be a big fat liar man. And frankly, I’d prefer to be just a big fat man. Well actually, I’d REALLY like to be merely a Big Man, or Man, but even the most aggressive toothbrushing won’t peel away those adjectives.

Where was I?

Oh yeah, I’m not using the Oral-B regularly. I’m just not. In trying to analyze the reasons why, I’ve come up with two [steps into confessional]:

  1. Sometimes I don’t want to brush for 2+ minutes.  Sometimes I wanna go hard and fast for 45 seconds (get your mind out of the gutter) and be done with it.  I know, I know.  And if I don’t get all the stars for all the quadrants of my mouth the brush’s Smart Guide will judge me, and then I’ll feel like shit. I wish I were kidding.
  2. The Oral B’s brushing action hurts my gums.  Now, this isn’t a bad thing in and of itself, because, as my dentist has told me, the pain is good; the pain is proof that it (it being the toothbrushing, of course) is working. But sometimes Jeffy doesn’t want the pain.  And sometimes Jeffy takes the easy way out and has less clean teeth to show for it.

The habit I’ve gotten in to over the past couple of weeks is using the Oral B power toothbrush about every third day, when I’m listening to music or have some other distraction, like watching a sporting event on the iPad.  Then I don’t focus on either the time it is taking or the pain it is causing.  I’m just moving the brush around my mouth and getting things clean in there.  We still haven’t bought extra brush heads for the girls to use it too, as we are short on funds for that expense right now.  But, I’d still like to have us all using this fine toothbrush, if never on an every day basis, to really get after the plaque and gunk between our teeth.  And to teach the girls that sometimes pain is more than just painful.  Sometimes it is helpful. The Mouse with her four (4!) cavities is about ready to learn this particular lesson.

The Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide is fantastic, it is me who is flawed.

Oral-B is offering a $10 mail-in rebate on select power toothbrushes through June 16, 2012. Please visit OralB.com for more information. Also check out Oral-B on Facebook and Twitter.

*I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Dad Central Consulting on behalf of Oral-B and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. All opinions above and statements about how gross my teeth can get in spite of regular brushing are honest and unbiased, as always.
