Two different kindie music events on the same day? Shit, it’s almost feelin’ like NYC ’round these parts. Take advantage of this, folks, it doesn’t happen every weekend in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Deedle Deedle Dees @ The Kimmel Center – Sat 3/10 11am – FREE EVENT!
I like this band quite a bit on record, but love ’em live. You’ve gotta get your kids out to this show, to watch Lloyd Miller and crew tear it up on songs about Henry Hudson, Amelia Earhart, and Marie Curie, among others. I reviewed their latest CD “Strange Dees, Indeed” here.
The XPN Kids Corner Music Fest @ Union Transfer – Sat 3/10 11am-2pm – $8 pp
This twice annual festival really hit its stride last Fall with an afternoon of stellar kid’s music at World Cafe Live in Wilmington. The nomadic kindie music showcase moves north this time around, to the new-ish indie rock club Union Transer (gorgeously remodeled venue in the location of that old Spaghetti Warehouse restaurant on Spring Garden Street). A trio of acts, included The Fuzzy Lemons and Roy Handy & the Moonshot, will delight your kids while they dabble in some arts-n-crafts and get their face painted.
The Mouse and I are going to hit ’em both, but you should do your very bestest to get your gang to at least one of these great family music events this weekend.
Aaaaaand if you can’t make either happen on Saturday the 10th, get thee self to World Cafe Live Philadelphia on Sunday morning at 11:30am for Justin Roberts! Family 4 pack of Tix for $44. Not bad for one of the top three kindie musicians working today. Do it!
