Jellytoons is a colorful toddler-targeted iPhone & iPad app containing 6-mini games designed to introduce and/or reinforce basic concepts of sorting, counting, shapes, matching and also allows children to practice their fine motor skills. The simple plot of a cartoon animal’s birthday party, as well as the animation itself, is top-notch. The game action is fun and easy to use for even the smallest of fingers.
For kids, their success in each of the games is rewarded with presents in the form of digital stickers. When they make mistakes, they are gently told so with silly sounds and actions.
For parents, there is progress tracking built into the game. You can access the app later to view how your child did the last time they played and also spy a graph of their development in key areas (motor skills, observation skills, etc) over time. These are very creative features that I’ve not seen before in any iPhone/iPad app for kids.
Jellytoons is one of the more clever iPhone apps for kids we’ve played in some time, and is well worth the dollar it costs. The Mouse, even though she is barely still in the ideal 2-4 age range, loves spending time with Flo, Noodles, Bobo and Max. Additionally, I could see the Jellytoons app being well-suited and quite helpful for children with special needs.
