My family’s train journey on the much heralded Flåm Railway came at the midway point of our week in Norway, thus serving as the emotional pivot of our spring break adventure. With over $200 already invested in the experience, not to mention the time we took to drive there from Bergen instead of exploring the western edge of the stunning Scandinavian country before eventually coming to a stop in Ålesund, there was a lot more than just tourists riding on these rails.
Time lost + money wasted is a potential landmine for any family vacation and we stepped on one in Flåm.
Once again, children led the way with a measured response of intelligence, perspective and humor. It’s just what I needed.
