Josh Ritter Live at the WXPN Free at Noon October 2015

This was a special afternoon. It was Josh Ritter’s birthday and the entire crowd serenaded him with “Happy Birthday” before the band started (his reaction is captured in the 3rd photo below). This was also the first concert for his adorable 3-year-old daughter.

Last Friday’s Free at Noon was a celebration of Ritter’s outstanding new album Sermon on the Rocks. I only wish the Bear could have been there, because Josh Ritter was her first favorite musician as a wide-eyed 2.5 year old toddler. She got to meet him once and gave him a high five after his show outside at the South Street Seaport in NYC nearly 9 years ago.

Ritter played the on-air portion for a sold out World Cafe Life crowd, and then came back out on stage for a couple more new songs with the Royal City Band (including the glorious “A Certain Light” from Beast in Its Tracks) and then one more time by himself to make the capacity crowd swoon and sing a long with “Joy To You Baby”.

Here are some photographs from the Josh Ritter WXPN Free at Noon concert on October 23, 2015.
