Much like Billy Jonas’ clever “Bear to the Left“, Joanie Leeds’ “Happy As A Clam” revels in the animal-centric expressions so common in our shared American English dialect. Every single lyric, strung together quite brilliantly, is comprised of sayings such as “working like a dog” and “proud as a peacock”.
In the tradition of collage or found-object art, and without taking anything at all away from the great skillful skill required to assemble such a song, it’d be more fitting to credit Leeds as architect than builder here. I for one would love to sneak a peek at the dry erase board used in the deft conception of “Happy As A Clam”.
The song is from Leeds’ forthcoming album “What A Zoo!” (due April 12), a disc that shows much maturity in it’s musicianship and focus. If you dug “I Am A Rock Star” (OWTK did), I think you’re gonna love accompanying your kids on this particular zoological journey.
