Kid’s Book Review: Beautiful Oops

BEAUTIFUL OOPS
by Barney Saltzberg

A lovely little board book determined to forever end the tantrum over ripped paper, misspelled words or stains on a masterpiece-in-progress.  Saltzberg (Good Egg, Crazy Hair Day) gives kids not only ideas for how to transform an Oops into a Wow, but also the a-okay to laugh at their mistakes and to see them as a necessary part of both the artistic process and of growing up.

The book itself is unlike anything I’ve seen, making use of numerous materials, folds, well-placed tears and even a crumbled up piece of loose leaf.  The Mouse repeatedly asks to flip through “pretty oops”, never seeming to tire of “Beautiful Oops” beautiful gimmick.

It’s never too early to think about holiday gifts (heck, The Mrs. and I are 1/2 way done our shopping already!) – so it’s worth noting that this clever & curious board book would look fantastic wedged into your preschooler’s red velvet stocking on Christmas morn.

Enjoy “Beautiful Oops” – the song! – by Barney Saltzberg, as you take a trip through this delightful book:
