In true Kickstarter-style, Jim Cosgrove (aka Mr. Stinky Feet) is calling on fans to help fund and, essentially, make his next album. At it’s simplest, this is a request to buy the CD in advance (and get it autographed) but if you wanna get more financially involved, you can score some sweet extras (tees, liner note credit, phone call from Jim, in-home private concert).
I cruise through the bevy of Kickstarter projects every week or so. I admire and adore the concept of a community of fans and friends throwing their collective monetary muscle behind a variety of artistic efforts and, in turn, getting some inventive and unique kickbacks. Now, I’m excited to see a kid’s musician give this a try.
Want to own a piece of the next Mr. Stinky Feet CD? Check out the menu of options here (I must say, I kinda wish there was more than 1 price point in between the $20 and $150 levels, with additional creative ways to be rewarded for your “donation”).
Ellis Paul did this with his most recent adult album. And several small indie rock bands have done it through Kickstarter. This fan-funding method may very well be the future of music making.
