Any time your family has the opportunity to visit a seaside archeological site created by a volcanic eruption from 60 million years ago that happens to also have a pretty rad mythology behind its creation, you kinda have to get there even if it means blowing past Belfast and your overnight ferry to have just a few minutes to see, experience, wander and quickly pee in the gift shop bathroom before backtracking to the capital city to make your return journey to England by boat. Phew, we made it, thankfully, because Giant’s Causeway is mesmerizing, even on a mostly cloudy, primarily slate grey summer day in Northern Ireland.
Giant’s Causeway is way out of the way, from pretty much everything, but it’s way worth the trip past Belfast to see these remarkable seaside steps.
