Every year around this time, I have some version of the same conversation as I try to get my daughters to love baseball.
“3 strikes is an out”
“A foul ball is a strike except if there’s already 2 strikes”
“A runner can tag up and try to advance to the next base as soon as the outfielder catches the ball”
and so it goes, me trying to extol the curiosities and intricacy of baseball, the greatest game ever invented.
I recently wrote about my 2016 effort to get my daughters to share my passion for and love baseball. Head over to WHYY’s Newsworks to read about Ken Burns, Jackie Robinson, Vin Scully, the Reading Fightin’ Phils and the best factoid about baseball I’ve ever heard.
