I push back from the driveway early tomorrow, in the chalkboard landscape of morning while absorbing the cold sucker punch of a winter bully, alone with a tangerine orange carry-on and a groggy quarter smile, a couple of hours before they’ll wake and start a new day. Hugs, books, laughs, tickles, many kisses — those were the orders of business tonight.
This’ll mark the 3rd straight weekend I’ll be away from the kids, out of town on adventures fun and fabulous but a little bit hollow too. Just a bit. I fancy some time away to become unhinged, but seeing the world through their eyes never fails to improve whatever it is we get ourselves into. There’s magic there, real shit. The trend of childless Saturdays and Sundays ends here. For a while anyhow.
Before bed, the Mouse helped me get ready. Well, she got my hair ready for the Dad 2.0 Summit in New Orleans. As stylists go, she has a rather unorthodox approach to top-of-head fashion. It suits the rest of her personality perfectly.
