Earlier this year, Coal Train Railroad burst onto the kindie music scene with a debut set of swinging jazz that’s positively adorable and, more importantly to jazz lovers, downright legit. Since the release of that self-titled CD, the Nashville duo of Katy Bowser & Chris Donohue have launched a podcast, played in and around their hometown, hit the road with Emmylou Harris (Chris) and started a family (Katy). Not a bad 2010.
Now, the group has a new digital EP “Live in Monophonorama” (released today), featuring songs from that podcast (including a cover of The Jellydots “Bicycle”) and OWTK has got an exclusive 20% off discount code for ya. The band’s take on Myra Taylor’s “The Spider and the Fly” is a damn near perfect 3-minutes, especially when the shouts of “it’s a lie” come in during the 2nd chorus. And the redux of album track “It’s Hard to Listen” is sick, with wicked piano licks 1/2 way through.
Head on over to the Coal Train Railroad site on Bandcamp to pick up a copy of this fine 6-song EP.
