No matter how you slice it, 25 years is a very long time to be in any kind of a relationship, whether it’s with an employer, a spouse or a musical collaborator. Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their musical relationship, one that has seen over a dozen Grammy nominations and 2 Grammy awards, among countless other praise and prizes.
Their last album, an EP recorded with the human beatbox Christylez Bacon, showed that while they’ve been at this game for decades, the duo have no intention of standing pat. That fantastic disc, which fused the pair’s classic Americana sound with hip-hop rhythms and beatbox vocals, stands as a testament to the beauty of collaboration and of the true power music has to bring disparate cultures and peoples together.
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Cathy & Marcy have released “Triple Play”, a 3-song EP with one refashioned old favorite (“Air Guitar”) and two new originals, and have a couple of big anniversary concerts scheduled, 1 on each coast. Catch ’em at Strathmore with special guests Ella Jenkins on Saturday, October 30th and then at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA on Sunday, November 7th.
Happy Anniversary Ladies, from OWTK. I raise my glass of spring water to both of you for 25 years of making family music together!
