OWTK has got a bad case of Phillies Phever! The Mouse, unfortunately, has a real fever and will not be joining the Bear and I at Citizen’s Bank Park tonight.
So instead of a full family affair, it will be just Dad & Daughter…and 43,498 fellow, towel waving crazies. We are going to try to arrive at the ballpark early to “Build-A-Phanatic”, play in the Phanatic Phun Zone (In case you have no idea what I am taking about, the Phanatic is the Phillies mascot and as a general rule, everything that would normally begin with the letter F is replaced with a Ph – a spellchecker nightmare) and then watch our hometown faves Dr. Dog rock out the National Anthem. My hope is that the Phils win and Dr. Dog becomes the Kate Smith of my generation. Considering they are the luckiest band in America, I am not ruling this out.
Go Phils!
//Update – Friday Morning//
What a game! The bear and I arrived a 1/2 hour prior to first pitch and stayed through the sixth inning. We got to “Build-A-Phanatic”, play in the Phun Zone for a bit, grab a bite to eat and be standing proud as we watch and listen to Dr. Dog belt out a nice, three part harmony version of Our National Anthem. The Fightin’ Phils exploded for 4 runs in the 1st off of John Smoltz and the bear was waving her rally towel and clutching her Phanatic the whole time. A guy next to me asked how old she was and when I responded, 3 1/2, he remarked that he has a 4 1/2 year old but he didn’t want to bring her and “waste the ticket, because she wouldn’t have a clue what was going on”. That made me proud to be raising a gal who can appreciate sports and be excited about what is taking place on the field – and not “waste” a ticket.
This last picture was taken by the bear with my iPhone, from our car, after we left the game.
