Sometimes we modern folk do stuff solely because we think it’ll look awesome on social media.
It’s okay, we all suffer for our art at one point or another.
For example, we know in our heads and in our hearts that the annual county hot air balloon festival is going to be a total bore for like 97.8% of the time but man, the payoff is going to be killer. We make a bet that one of our photos, probably of a colorful gaggle of in-flight balloons set against a royal blue sky with a few scattered well-defined clouds, will top 100 LIKES on Instagram and get dozens of oohs and aahs on Facebook.
That’s going to be awesome.
Our followers will be totes jelly because they’ll have the privilege of seeing only the gloriously colorful climax of an otherwise tedious 10-hour day out. It’ll feel good to read others being envious of the *fun* we had, and knowing they will wish that they too were out doing even half of the cool stuff we’re doing. So we’ll sit through the terrible bluegrass band, let the scratchy hay stick to our sweaty arms, eat the overpriced fried things we know full well that we’ll regret later, all because we’ll take that one photo and give our followers serious FOMO.
But it’s flu season and the only thing worse than potentially missing out on taking that amazing photo to share on social is missing out on scoring boatloads of LIKES on that photo because we’re down for the count, in bed, with batches of balled-up tissues on the floor instead of bright balloons in the sky. That’s #FluFOMO and that’s a big no-no.
Being sick is the worst.
All the moments we miss, all the giggles we don’t hear, and all the toothy grins we’ll never see because we’re stuck in bed, a victim of cold & flu season while our kids and our significant others are out on the town living la vida loca.
Oh, yeah, and all the LIKES we lose out on being sick! Well not this year, people, NOT. THIS. YEAR. I’ve got a plan for us to avoid #FluFOMO.
This cold & flu season, I’m partnering with Clorox to encourage you to #SaveTheLikes by taking good care of yourself and your family.
Avoid The Flu, Save The Likes
Here’s the 4-step plan to stay healthy and avoid #FluFOMO this cold & flu season:
- Get your flu shot
- Grab a tube of Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes from Target, Walgreens, or your local grocery store and kill 99.9% of germs (that can live on surfaces for up to 48 hours), as well as 99.9% of viruses* and bacteria – plus Staph, E. Coli, salmonella and strep.
- Download the Sickweather app so that you can see how severe cold & flu season is in your area and help avoid illness and avoid FluFOMO.
- Join some Groups on Sickweather to share or check symptoms associated with a specific location, like your kids’ petri dish of a school or your office (where perfect attendance Bob keeps showing up and getting everyone else sick too).
- This is really 4a. If you see a friend, family member or co-worker (like Bob) going down with an illness this flu season, click the Sickweather Sympathy Button and send an offer for Clorox disinfecting products to help them prevent the spread of germs. It’s a nice thing to do for them but a wise self-preservation maneuver as well.
You’ve done it!
Thanks to Clorox and Sickweather, you made it through cold & flu season unscathed, save for the cuts on your legs from the scratchy hay, the indigestion from funnel cake and the 10 hours of life you’ll never get back, and your social media photos and posts are being rewarded with so many hearts, LIKES, and “you’re so lucky!” comments.

This post has been sponsored by Clorox. All opinions expressed above are honest and unbiased, as always. I too sometimes will do things solely because I want the photo of it to be seen, liked and adored. I can’t let the flu stand in my way of a killer social media post, no #FluFOMO for me.
