You know as well as I do that you need a new silicone whisk and a fab colorful muffin pan. So why not refresh your kitchen gadget collection with a sugary sweet zulily’s baking sales event featuring me and my extremely photogenic daughters!

First I just want to say real quick how much I appreciate zulily involving dads in a campaign like this. I know their app and site is focused on and marketed to women mostly (I think something to that effect is in their slogan or was at one point) so kudos to zulily for putting together a matching dad campaign after they tried it for the first time with mom bloggers before this past Mother’s Day. Thanks also to zulily for choosing my daughters and I for their dad-centric campaign.
I’ve always been a big guy, oscillating between overweight and grossly overweight since about the age of 12. Because I grew up in an era before plus size models were a thing, the idea of me ever being a model, let alone flown across the country, put up in swanky hotel, and paid a handsome per diem, to model was not an idea at all.
Never in a million years could I have imagined being a model for anything other than a BEFORE photo in a sketchy LOSE WEIGHT FAST infomercial airing on repeat from 2:45 – 5:15 AM on Tuesdays, just before reruns of Three’s Company.
But there I was last month in Seattle, in front of the camera with my two remarkable daughters, sitting in make-up chairs as Lauren got us camera ready, rifling through the dressing room for cool duds that would pop in front of a fuschia screen, and being photographed and GIF-ed by Carlton.
Life is weird. And wonderful.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t also acknowledge how grand it was that a massive retailer provided ‘baking’ as an option for a dad themed photo shoot and that they had no intention of it becoming a trope-y bumbling know-nothing dad in the kitchen kind of thing.
That’s modern, wonderful and very much appreciated by me, my family and all the other guys out there who know their way around the kitchen.
