My kids tend to miss a lot of school but I like to think that they won’t get into trouble for all the absences because I’m not just pulling them out of class all willy-nilly.
Last month, we spent 10 days on board the brand new Carnival Vista cruise ship in Europe, and in between exploring the Colosseum in Rome, the cave in which Zeus was born on the island of Crete, the Parthenon atop the Acropolis in Athens, and a Temple of Apollo in Turkey, they got to spend over an hour in the Vista’s hi-tech engine control room with the ship’s Chief Engineer Cesare Boldrini explaining how everything works and how the ship desalinates water from the super salty Mediterranean Sea so that guests on board have clean water to shower and relax in the hot tub.
I mean, they ain’t getting that up close and personal with the lesson plans in school!
This week, Mouse and I turned that desalination discussion into a new learning activity for PBS Parents. Take a look and give this experiment a try with your kids this summer.
