Shaving Like The AVEENO Man My Dad Is

I haven’t shaved in years. I trim my weird beard once a week or so, more frequently during the hot months, but that is about the extent of my male grooming regiment. My father, however, he’s a daily shaver. Old school. No facial hair. Ever. He only uses a razor about once a week for a close shave, and it’s not even switchblade! This discovery has all but ruined the Fonzi-like image I’ve had of my dad since I was a kid. Next thing he’s gonna tell me is that he doesn’t walk around his house in a leather jacket 24/7/365. Frankly, I’m not sure I’m prepared to hear that.

He would be marred with nicks and cuts every. single. time using the razor. I have visual memories, no joke, they are bright and vivid, of my dad walking around the house in the morning with tiny pieces of toilet paper stuck to his face with the faintest glimpses of red literally bleeding through. No wonder I was never that into shaving. I was scarred (pun intended) for life! In between his weekly blood loss, my dad uses an electric razor that spares his face but never does get all of the hairs.

I handed him a three pack of shaving products on Father’s Day (don’t say I never gave you anything, pops!) with the instructions to try ’em all and tell me honestly what he thought. He read my LongHorn story, so he knew he had permission to be truthful.

Not to be left out, my mom has also been using the AVEENO Active Naturals Men’s Face Wash, henceforth referred to as ‘the face wash’. Of that face wash, my dad says it’s “refreshing on my skin” and adds that “the blade glides across my face with the shaving gel” and “it smells great afterward.” I’m no face scientist, but I think that would be the ACTIVE NATURALS® Oat ingredient doing its moisturizing dermatology thang. Or D-Thang, as my crew would say. Okay, fine, I do not and have never had a ‘crew.’ Thanks for pointing that out and opening those wounds again. Nice.

My dad remarked that he has shaved with a razor daily since Father’s Day, to help me write this story (thanks, dad) and has not cut himself once. I could hear in his voice that he’s extremely glad to be saving money on toilet paper! With his new found wealth, he said he’ll buy more Aveeno Men’s products over the cheapest, $.69 or $.99 crapola on sale at Walgreens.

Because there was a chance my dad could have cut himself again and bleed to death at any moment, I am going to say that my re-gifted father’s day handoff has saved his life. I’m a hero. Thanks, .

I should add here, before I let you get back to making fun of Kanye and Kim’s baby name, that my mom was lobbying to get herself some AVEENO product, the stuff for the ladies that Jennifer Aniston pitches, because “she is beautiful” and my mom “would buy anything she sells.” Mom, Aniston ain’t got nothing on you.
