I really enjoyed this short film that shows the oft painful dynamic between a working wife and a laid off husband who isn’t necessarily trusted by his partner to take care of things, like childcare for example, properly. Maybe he has screwed up in the past, maybe he hasn’t shown enough enthusiasm in the job search, and maybe what we are seeing here are the strains of months of such behavior. Either way, there is subtle redemption in The Birthday Card and it’ll make you feel warm inside.
Isn’t that what a well-told story is capable of, after all?
