Gearing Up for Spring with The Home Depot Garden Club

Bird chirps, topped off gas tanks, and the crack of the bat — there isn’t anything quite as beautiful as springtime.

Being a homeowner has had a number of strange impacts on me, but the most curious is my inspiring, hopeful gaze out onto my lawn. And THAT is a bucket full of weird because, well, let’s just say that the outdoors and me weren’t besties in the 80’s and 90’s. Now though, I long for the bloom of the lilac bush, the hum of the mower, and the return of the mallards to our stream. And I’ve become an adult who sees a patch of lawn and dreams of the possibilities. After our front yard was ripped up in spring 2012 to replace the water line (during and after shots below), the space immediately in front of the house that was once awash in bushes and mulch has been starring wide-eyed at me like a toddler silently begging for one more cookie. Thank goodness grass and mud can’t make a pouty lip!

This season, The Home Depot Garden Club website is adding some real life visuals to the DIY thoughts sprouting up in my head. Thanks to a handy shopping list of materials and required tools list, this 1-day beginner level paver path project has broken down the “oh crap, there is no way I can accomplish that” barrier. And that in and of itself is huge, considering I am thee bozo who once built a simple wheelbarrow backwards, and get the cold sweats when faced with any instruction manual.
