2012 Holiday Gift Guide: A Very Handmade Christmas

A VERY HANDMADE CHRISTMAS

Fabric Wall Decals from Love Mae

We can’t afford ’em, but maybe you can!  Seriously, I am saving my jellybeans to buy the dolly dress up decals for the Mouse. She’d flip to mimic her favorite Melissa & Doug magnetic dressing dolls on her revamped bedroom walls.  And look at those woodland creatures, and that tree!  Can one swoon over wall decals? Yes, yes they can. [swooooon]

Loog Guitars

Okay, so you can buy these on Amazon but that doesn’t mean they aren’t, in their soul and in their spirit, handmade.  In fact, technically speaking, your hands will be the ones building this brilliant mini-guitar for kids.  We have one, love it, and use it as a kindie rock autograph hub.  We have a Gustafer Yellowgold drawn on ours and if you go see Morgan Taylor in concert with your Loog, I bet he’ll draw his character from the sun on your beautiful Loog Guitar too. Here’s the Loog we have and I’d recommend it for your kiddo.

Family Box from Mama May I

We bought our Family Box wooden peg family from a tiny handmade store in South Philly.  I later found out they can be had online from the maker, Mama May I, and if you have or want to have hyper-imaginative children, I cannot imagine you finding a better, more sweet toy. Look at those fabric sleeping sacks! So, so adorable.

American Girl Gymnast Leotards and Balance Beam

Maybe you could make your own beam for less than $30 (if bought separately) but I can’t, or won’t. Probably. This set for any little kid still basking in the glow of Team USA’s triumph during the London Games is one of many great handmade items on Etsy.
