Baseball, uncontrollable sneezing, and Kindiefest.
This is what Spring has come to mean to me over the past several years.
The final leg of that seasonal trilogy will take place this month when the most respected bands, artists, players, and voices in the independent kid’s music scene – and, um, me – converge on Brooklyn to attend the annual Kindiefest Family Music Conference.
I am pleased as punch to once again be on a panel discussion at the conference, along with big hitters Dan Zanes, Mindy Thomas (XM Radio’s Kids Place Live), Darren Critz (Symphony Space), Christina Refford (Cool Mom Picks), and Stefan Shepherd (Zooglobble). But hearing me blabber on about The State Of Kindie is far from the only reason to attend. I know for a fact that killer connections happen every single year at Kindiefest. Musicians enter K-Fest with a dream of being discovered and within months many of them are getting national airplay, glowing reviews, and gigs at some of the most revered venues/at some of the best festivals/and in some of the best music series’ the country. Aaaaaand not to mention the big laughs and memorable conversations that take place there all weekend long. AND the terrific live music you’ll hear that will either make you wilt because you’ll suddenly realize you will never be THAT good or, hopefully, inspire and encourage you to elevate your musical game.
If you are in a band or are thinking of starting a band for all-ages audiences, or have/are starting a blog to review CDs, a podcast to discuss/play family music, or a promoter thinking about booking daytime kids concerts, you should absolutely attend Kindiefest. AND you also get to hear me drop some wisdom. What else do I need to say to convince you that this is a good idea?
Registration is now open, discounts on hotels are available, and much fun is waiting to be had. And it’d be totally funner with you there. Do it.
I’ve written recaps of past Kindiefests. Peruse those articles at your leisure.
