THE FABULOUS SONG

Forget that the book The Fabulous Song includes a CD of music from, and inspired by, it’s text. It’s the text and Marie-Louise Gay’s comically active watercolor illustration that sells The Fabulous Song so well. Don Gillmor has penned an outrageously funny story of parental expectations, sibling rivalry, musical passion, and most importantly of discovering one’s true calling. The curious tale of young Frederic Pipkin and his wooden spoon is laugh-out-loud funny and, if you let it be, also a little inspirational. We parents are often guilty of pushing our kids down paths that we either once traveled or those we wish we had. The Fabulous Song isn’t even a little bit preachy, yet at it’s core is the idea that our children are going to be great at something. That something may be unexpected, but it’ll be something worth celebrating.
