Colin Meloy of Portland-prose rockers The Decemberists, along with his wife Carson Ellis, have inked a 3-book deal with Harper Collins to bring to life Wildwood – a series of novels for middle school children.
Dubbed by the publisher as “a classic tale of adventure, magic, and danger, set in an alternate version of modern-day Portland, Oregon”, the first book in the series is expected to see the light of day in Autumn 2011. With The Decemberists popularity, Meloy’s unique voice and Ellis’ high-art visuals (The Mysterious Benedict Society, Decemberists’ album art) a movie deal is sure to follow.
Let’s just hope, for the sake of the chitlens, that the Wildwood books don’t feature Meloy’s musical fondness for prostitute mothers, dead babies and vivid abductions scenarios.
