Best Moments: Stand-out tracks “Wake Up” and “Tinsel & Light” are where the Joe Pernice-reference really comes in to play, with stunning effect. “Wake Up”, with it’s parade of sleigh bells and cascading, picture-perfect postcard lyrics, such as “large candy canes dangle from the trees / skating polar bears glide by so gracefully / gingerbread men falling through the snow / the northern lights casting a heavenly glow”, may just be the best 2 minutes of rock-n-roll Christmas tunage ever. You’ll hear a lot of R.E.M. (and those sleigh bells again) on “Yes, It’s Christmas”, an upbeat song about making wishes, trimming trees and all the other joys of the holiday season…with a spoonful of “fa-la-la” for good measure!
