We have seen the signs for a few weeks now: the red and green decorations and the “new” and “hot” merchandise has been on shelves since late September and the big toy catalogs and TMX Elmo emails have been arriving in our mailboxes. And while we are still far enough out that most stores have not yet pressed play on their tired collection of perky x-mas pop music, now is the time to start thinking about diverse, unique, and extraordinary Christmas/Holiday ideas.
Never ones to wait until the last minute, OWTK is already hard at work (ok, that is a bit of an exaggeration) budgeting, planning, and plotting this year’s Christmas Gift Ideas for friends and family. Over the course of the next couple months, OWTK will be writing an ongoing Holiday Gift Guide for babies, toddlers, kids, and adults. The first gift idea featured is perfect for any age, and it’s one that emphasizes giving over receiving.
Project Puffin’s Adopt a Puffin Program
The National Audubon Society provides a unique and long lasting gift centered around Maine’s gorgeous and amazing bird with it’s Adopt a Puffin program.
For $100 you receive a certificate of adoption, a biography of your Puffin, and two Puffin updates throughout the year. With your donation and adoption, you are able to select a thank you gift (which could serve as the physical wrap-able gift) such as a tote bag, hat, interactive cd-rom, Puffin video, Project Puffin book, or plush Puffin (which would make a great stocking stuffer for a child!).
As an added bonus, the $100 donation (minus the value of the gift your choice) is tax deductable.
