Haven Life and The Death Of One Of The Last Hold Outs Of The Modern DIY World

Auto and home.
Our thermostats and in-home lighting.
401(k) investments and everyday banking.
Movies and TV.
Even live sports!

We are alive in a self-directed, DIY, on-demand, “give it to me right now, no, even quicker!” world. And, up until very recently, there’s been an old-school-but-not-in-a-rad-way hold out: life insurance.

Yuck. I know. Life insurance. But bear with me, this is a modern, good news and, frankly, a pretty important story.

Haven Life Insurance for Busy Modern DIY Introverts

I want to have life insurance because of her.

Few things frighten me more than meeting other adults for the first time. Sorry not sorry, but I’m an introvert with limited frivolous chit chat skills. This will become important in a moment.

A decade ago, I was a financial services representative, licensed and all that jazz. Every day I spoke on the phone with the employees of companies, hospitals and schools about retirement savings, investments and financial preparedness.

Despite all of the many financial skills added to my portfolio back then, even I couldn’t navigate my way through a life insurance plan. I knew enough to know that it was important to have one, especially once I became a dad twice over, you know, just in case something were to happen to me (not that I ever want to think about that too hard) but that’s about the extent of it.

I also knew one more thing, that to buy a life insurance plan I’d have to pick up the phone or, worse, take time out of my day to go meet with an agent to hear all about life insurance plans and how they work and why I should buy one right now from him or her.

I can’t think of a worse way to spend any amount of minutes, then or now.

Fortunately, there’s now Haven Life so my introverted self doesn’t need to speak to a soul anymore. And neither do you. It’s 2017 and we’re all about being self-directed, DIY, and on-demand, right?

Haven Life has brought life insurance forward into this amazing, introvert-friendly new world.

We busy dads and moms have a simple, on-demand solution to buying quality term life insurance to help financially protect our families. Something we can do on our own time and online, even as a kid hangs onto our leg whining for one more episode of Paw Patrol and with another small person complaining that the cheese they eat every single day of their life is TOO yellow today.

…and her too!

Backed and wholly owned by MassMutual, Haven Life made term life insurance more accessible for introverts when they introduced an InstantTerm process nearly a year ago. It was the first-of-its-kind — a totally online process that allows for some applicants to purchase up to a cool million in fully medically underwritten term life insurance coverage without the need for a medical exam…and without being up-charged for such a convenience. Haven Life is able to offer this process to some because they analyze application information in real-time. You’ll know once you submit the application if a medical exam is needed.

I love the transparency of what Haven Life does, offering price comparisons and instant decisions online whenever we’re ready — during our lunch break at work, after our kids have had their 47th sip of water at bedtime and have FINALLY succumb to sleep, or with bedhead on a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee in one hand and a purring cat on our lap as we wait for a Premier League match to kickoff.

All this, and it’s affordable. A healthy 35-year-old man could buy a 20-year, $500,000 policy starting at about $21 per month.

While it is an online experience, you may need or want to speak with someone about term life insurance policies or the process of getting yo self one. It happens. All of us introverted DIY-ers, each one of us, at some point, need an extra helping hand. Haven Life has you covered there too because their customer service reps work on chat, phone and email but don’t work on commission. Boom. Their job, their only job, is to help you out as you do the term life insurance thang online.

Get educated, get a quote, protect your family, and be confident and proud of yourself for DIY-ing the hell out of your new term life insurance plan from Haven Life.

Haven Life compensated OWTK for this story but the opinions expressed above are honest and unbiased, as always. I am indeed an introvert who truly loathes meeting new people and the old life insurance buying process. Haven Life is rad, modern and I’m 100% on board with that.

Haven Term is a Term Life Insurance Policy (ICC15DTC) issued by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), Springfield, MA 01111 and offered exclusively through Haven Life Insurance Agency, LLC

  1. We do have different communication styles. I love talking to people in person. I actually had lunch with my life insurance agent last week “just because”. The difference in how it’s purchased doesn’t really matter as long as it’s done. Realizing my kids are almost the same age I was when I lost my dad made the purchase imperative. What I’m trying to say is, I’m glad you wrote this.

I think you make a great case here! I wish everything were as easy as this sounds like it is.

  3. Right? Like, if I could lay in bed on my phone and within a few clicks have a bagel toasting in the kitchen? C’mon, scientists! 😉

  4. Oh Alice. It DOES matter how it is purchased for so many people who have no desire to dine with their agent! 🙂 The notion of taking care of this important life step in the quiet comfort of our home is like a burden being lifted.

  5. I’m going to have to check this out. I like convenience and not having to talk to someone:)

  6. Wait, you don’t like talking to ME??? Creed, why do you hurt me so?? 😉
