OWTK Kindie Music News

Symphony Space Sets the Standard

There are a number of venues, big and small, across the nation booking children’s entertainment.  Some host music, some theater, others dance/comedy/film/variety shows.  Symphony Space in New York City (more famously known, to the Mrs and I at least, as the ‘Selected Shorts’ place…sponsored by Zabars Coffee and ZabarsCoffee.com – cue piano music!) sets the standard in youth-oriented event programming by hosting all of that and more.  The Upper West Side venue’s range is impressive, their quality is unmatched and now, their pricing is nearly unbeatable (for NYC or anywhere).

The 2010-2011 family season, dubbed ‘Just Kidding’, on Symphony Space’s 2 stages includes the most respectable lineup of national kindie rock talent anywhere (Recess Monkey, 23 Skidoo, Gustafer, Liz Mitchell, Lunch Money, Suni Paz, Justin Roberts, & many more) but what’s better, is that a number of those shows feature $10 tickets! (Tickets to the other, non-$10 gigs can get cheaper when you create your own Just Kidding subscription.) $10 is a great price in Des Moines, it’s a superb price in the Big Apple.

In addition to the whole-country-buffet of all-ages music, you can head to Symphony Space with your tots to see classic films (Babe, Wallace & Gromit), classic dance (The Nutcracker), kid-lit events (Clementine series) and a theatrical circus show that looks awesome! (Circurious…an American Circus).

In prior years, we’ve seen a ballet (Fancy Nancy) and a tap-dance show (Tappy Holidays) at Symphony Space.  It’s a comfortable room in a great location.  We can’t wait to be back this season.  Hope to see you there too!

Check out all the great events on tap in the ’10-’11 Just Kidding season at Symphony Space.
